Transforming Lives Through Healing

The Bible Gospel Medical Mission’s CALL TO ACTION

When I was ten years old, our family traveled to Southeast Asia to do missions work with indigenous national pastors. It was an amazing experience and although it happened so long ago, I can still remember so much about how it helped to shape my life.

While there, I got deathly ill, deep in the throes of a combination of typhoid fever and malaria. I recall at one point being in such pain that I asked to die. It was a sobering request from a child and no doubt a shock to my parents. Fortunately, my dad was able to find a clinic and a doctor willing to treat me.
I recall being ushered into a dimly lit, shack-like building. I don’t remember there being any windows. It was sparsely furnished. Perhaps a dozen beds, most filled with patients, some tables, shelves, a few fans and lamps.

The doctor took a sample of blood and other things. At one point, I remember he needed to give me an injection and that he had been going from patient to patient using the same syringe to do so. That part didn’t scare me as much as the fact I was going to get stuck again, but this gave my parents pause. This was the 1980s at the height of the AIDS epidemic, after all. But needs must, this sickness was killing me NOW. It was worth the risk. Die from something that might very well kill me within days, if not hours, or risk something that might kill me in a decade.

I got the shot, and I got better! Yet so many of those who suffered from this same sickness in the town weren’t so lucky. I never forgot how fortunate I was to get this life-saving treatment. And I hope this helps to underscore that when you need a doctor and medicine urgently, it’s a matter of life and death.
I hope that after you read the following, you’ll agree that this is a worthy cause.

For decades, the Bible Gospel Medical Mission has been a beacon of hope for underserved communities across the Philippines. Led by the vision of Pastor Othello Caturan and his wife, Felinda, this mission brings more than just medical care—it delivers the life-changing message of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to those in need. As we approach 2025, the mission is expanding its efforts, and we need your help to continue this vital work.

THE VISION:

A New Medical Mission Vehicle

A core part of their outreach is ensuring that our medical teams can reach even the most remote areas. To make this possible, we are raising funds to purchase a new Medical Mission Outreach Vehicle that will carry medical equipment, medicines, and our dedicated team.

We have selected a reliable, custom-built vehicle that will meet the needs of the mission. The total cost for this new vehicle is $66,600, including:

  • 18-ft. Body (minibus model): $25,800
  • Cab & Chassis (Japan-made): $36,000
  • AC Unit: $4,800

We have already raised $6,000, but we still need your help to reach the total amount required. This vehicle will enable us to deliver critical care to communities that would otherwise be unreachable, all while sharing the message of hope and salvation through Jesus Christ.

LIVES TRANSFORMED:

The Power of Medical Mission Outreaches

The heart of the Bible Gospel Medical Mission is not just in treating physical ailments but in transforming lives through the Gospel. We have witnessed incredible stories of individuals and families who have come to know Christ through our work.

  • Jimboy Padigos from Talisay City, Cebu, came to know the Lord during a previous medical mission. Despite a challenging home life, Jimboy has since been baptized and now serves as a worship leader and youth choir member at his local church.
  • The Nuenos Family of Bogo City, Cebu, decided to follow Christ after their daughter received a successful surgery during a medical mission. They are now faithful members of Emmanuel Fundamental Bible Church.
  • William Abapo, a fisherman, and his son both accepted Christ during a past medical mission. William now serves as a worship leader in his church and has seen his family transformed by the love of Christ.

These stories are just a few examples of how our medical missions impact not only physical health but also spiritual lives. Through these outreach efforts, entire families are coming to faith, churches are being strengthened, and communities are being transformed.

UPCOMING OUTREACHES THIS YEAR

In 2024, we planned multiple Evangelistic Medical/Dental Mission Outreaches in regions across the Philippines, where both physical and spiritual care will be provided:

  • September 20-21, 2024: Cordova and Lapulapu City, Cebu
  • November 1, 2024: Butuan City, Agusan del Sur (Tribal Outreach)

Each outreach cost approximately $600. Missions like these are an opportunity to reach even more people with the Gospel, as well as provide medical and dental care that many would otherwise be unable to access.

THE FUTURE:

Orphanage, Refuge Center, and Senior Day Care

Looking forward, we are also working towards establishing a Future Orphanage, Refuge Center, and Senior Day Care facility by early 2025. This project will provide a safe haven for orphans, displaced individuals, and the elderly who have nowhere else to turn.

The estimated total cost of this project is $119,000, and we need $36,670 to start. Currently, we have $8,175. We are seeking partners to help us reach this goal.
Additional funding is needed to purchase reading glasses and Bibles. So often, we’ve given away Bibles only to find that the recipient cannot read the small print.

A LEGACY OF SERVICE:

Dr. Othello and Felinda Caturan

Pastor Othello Caturan has been committed to serving both the physical and spiritual needs of people since he first felt the call to be a missionary doctor in his youth. Together with his wife, Felinda, they have served in medical missions across the Philippines and beyond, impacting countless lives.
After a rich career in both medicine and ministry, Pastor Othello and Felinda continue to follow God’s calling, even in their golden years. Their dedication has inspired many to join them in this work. But there is still much to be done.
